God: The Focus of Worship

Worship is a central part of the Christian faith.  It’s more than singing songs or attending a service, it’s a response to who God is. True worship isn’t about us; it’s about Him. When we shift our focus from God, worship loses its meaning. But when He remains at the centre, worship becomes a life-giving and transformative experience.

Worship isn’t limited to a church building or a Sunday gathering. It’s a daily posture of the heart that honours God in all things. Jesus told the Samaritan woman, “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). Worship is about connection, not routine. It’s an outpouring of love, rooted in a deep understanding of God’s character.

Why God Must Be the Centre of Our Worship

Why God Must be The Centre of Worship

 1. He Alone is Worthy

Revelation 4:11 declares: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things.” Worship belongs to God alone — not to people, possessions, or personal achievements. When we worship, we acknowledge His unmatched greatness.

 2. Worship Aligns Our Hearts with God

Life is full of distractions, but worship recentres our focus. It shifts our attention from stress, fears, and desires to He who holds everything together. Worship reminds us that life is not about us, it’s about glorifying God.

 3. Worship Brings Us into God’s Presence

Psalm 22:3 says God inhabits the praises of His people. When we genuinely worship, we invite His presence into our lives. This is where healing happens, burdens are lifted, and hearts are renewed.

 4. Worship is an Act of Surrender

True worship is about trust. It’s offering ourselves fully to God, no matter the circumstances. Romans 12:1 urges us to present our lives as a “living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God — this is your true and proper worship.” Worship is more than a song; it’s a life surrendered to Him.

Keeping God at the Centre of Worship

Keeping God at The Centre of Worship

In a world full of distractions, it’s easy for worship to become about personal experiences rather than God. To ensure He remains our focus:

  • Engage with Scripture: Worship should be rooted in truth, not just emotions. Knowing God through His Word deepens our worship.
  • Live a Life of Worship: Worship isn’t just music; it’s reflected in our obedience, service, and daily surrender.
  • Guard Against Distractions: Worship isn’t about how we sound, how we feel, or who is watching. It’s about honouring God.
  • Pray for a Worshipful Heart: Ask God to help you worship in spirit and truth, free from self-focus.

God is the focus of worship!

Worship is about who God is, what He has done, and what He continues to do. When we keep Him at the centre, worship becomes an encounter that shapes us and draws us closer to Him.

Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, and worship Him with all that we are. He alone is worthy of our highest praise.
