God is supreme, the Creator of all things, the One before whom every knee will bow (Philippians 2:10–11); He entrusted man with dominion over the earth, granting us the privilege and responsibility of stewardship (Genesis 1:28). This dominion is not absolute independence, but authority under God’s supreme government.
Within this grand design exists the reality of free will. Man is free to choose obedience or rebellion, and those choices carry consequences that shape the destiny of nations and individuals alike. Satan, as the archenemy of God’s purposes, seeks to manipulate that free will to thwart God’s plans. Understanding this dynamic is essential to walk in victory.
The Supremacy of God and The Stewardship of Man

At the heart of dominion is the supremacy of God. Scripture declares that “all things were created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16). Creation is not self-sustaining but is ordered under His authority. This means that every expression of power, dominion, or authority is derivative; it flows from God.
However, God, in His love, chose to entrust man with stewardship of the earth. Genesis 1:28 captures this: “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion…” Nothing that concerns the business of the earth happens outside man’s participation.
Yet this stewardship is never outside God’s authority. Jesus Himself demonstrated this truth: though He had all authority, He submitted to the Father’s will (John 5:19). For man to exercise dominion rightly, we must remain under God’s government.
A practical illustration of this truth can be seen in leadership. A manager in a company can only exercise authority effectively when aligned with the vision of the organisation. The moment they act outside that framework, their authority loses legitimacy. Similarly, in the spirit realm, authority is recognised only when connected to God’s supreme authority. If we rebel, our words and actions lose weight.
Light: The Principal Component of Dominion

The principal component for manifesting dominion is light that comes from the Word of God. John 1:4 reminds us that “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” Without light, dominion is reduced to ambition and presumption.
Believers must therefore build their lives on revelatory knowledge. Daniel 11:32 says, “The people who know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits.” To walk in dominion, you must:
- Know God personally, not just theoretically.
- Understand your identity in light of who God is.
- Recognise your place in God’s programme (Hebrews 10:7).
- Understand Satan’s strategies, so you are not ignorant of his devices (2 Corinthians 2:11).
Dominion must always be exercised within the context of God’s will. 1 John 5:14 teaches us that “if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” Dominion is not a licence to fulfil selfish ambitions; it is empowerment to align earth with heaven’s purposes.
This means that walking in dominion requires constant submission. A believer walking in dominion will demonstrate:
- Victory over sin and Satan.
- Courage to influence culture with kingdom values.
- Wisdom to steward resources for God’s glory.
- Compassion to administer life to others.
Conclusion
Dominion and free will are divine complements. God is supreme, yet He entrusted man with stewardship of the earth. Satan wars against this dominion, exploiting human free will to frustrate God’s purposes. But through Christ, believers have been given power, authority, and jurisdiction to overcome the enemy, change circumstances, and administer life.
To manifest this dominion, light from the Word is essential. Knowledge of God, identity in Christ, and understanding of kingdom mysteries enable believers to exercise dominion rightly. Free will means we must continually choose submission to God’s authority, only then does our authority remain valid.
Dominion is not a licence for self-indulgence, but the privilege of walking victoriously in God’s will. As we keep our guard up, understand Satan’s strategies, and live in obedience, we manifest heaven on earth.
