Few things trouble a person’s heart more than uncertainty about the future. We naturally want to know what lies ahead. We seek security in plans, confidence in predictability, and reassurance that tomorrow will unfold according to our expectations. Yet, life often reminds us how limited our knowledge truly is.
Scripture consistently points us away from trust in our own understanding and towards confidence in the God who owns tomorrow.
God alone sees the whole picture. He is not confined by time, surprised by events, or hindered by circumstances. What is hidden from us is fully known to Him. While we experience life moment by moment, God stands above history and directs it according to His perfect wisdom and eternal purpose. This is beautifully expressed in Isaiah 46:9-10:
“I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning… My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.”
God not only knows the future; He governs it. He declares the end from the beginning and accomplishes His purposes without fail. Therefore, we believers can live with confidence, not because we know tomorrow, but because we know the One who does.
Trusting God’s Sovereign Plans

One of the greatest comforts for believers is the knowledge that God’s intentions towards His people are rooted in love, wisdom, and hope.
Through the prophet Jeremiah, God assured His people:
Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.”
These words were originally spoken to Israel during exile, a season marked by uncertainty and disappointment. Yet even in those difficult circumstances, God had not abandoned His people. His plans remained good, and His purposes remained intact.
The same confidence belongs to us today. God does not revise His plans because of unexpected developments. He does not change His mind because circumstances become complicated. What He purposes, He fulfils.
This confidence is rooted in God’s unchanging character.
- God’s plans are good: Even when we cannot understand His ways, we can trust His heart.
- God’s wisdom is perfect: Human understanding is limited, but God’s perspective is complete.
- God’s purposes cannot fail: What He has ordained will come to pass according to His perfect timing.
- God remains faithful to His promises: His word stands firm because His character never changes.
- God works all things together for good: Believers can rest in the assurance that their heavenly Father is working even through difficulties and delays.
David expressed this confidence beautifully in Psalm 31:15: “My times are in your hands.”
David understood that every season of life, every joy and every trial, rested securely under God’s sovereign care. And even when God reveals something of His purposes, it still requires faith to follow through. Confidence is not merely knowing God’s plan; it is trusting God’s character when the path ahead remains unclear.
Indeed, man cannot always make the best decisions. Left to ourselves, we often act according to limited understanding and imperfect wisdom. This is why Scripture repeatedly calls believers to depend upon God rather than themselves.
As children of God, our responsibility is not to control tomorrow, but to trust the One who owns it.
Living Under God’s Leading

Because God knows tomorrow, we believers are invited to seek His guidance today. Jesus addressed man’s tendency towards anxiety when He said in Matthew 6:34: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.”
Christ’s command is not a call to carelessness, but to confidence. Anxiety arises when we attempt to carry responsibilities that belong to God alone. Peace comes when we entrust tomorrow into His hands.
This is where supernatural leading becomes so important.
God leads His people. Throughout Scripture, we see examples of men and women who relied upon divine guidance rather than human wisdom. Whether Abraham responding in hospitality, Mary surrendering with the words, “I am the Lord’s servant” (Luke 1:38), or Solomon asking God for wisdom, the pattern remains the same: God honours those who depend upon Him.
Supernatural leading does not mean inventing God’s will according to personal desires. Rather, believers are called to discern His will through relationship with Him.
This requires creating the right spiritual environment.
Such an environment includes:
- A life of prayer: God leads, and in the place of prayer, believers receive direction, wisdom, and peace.
- A posture of worship: Living in worship creates sensitivity to God’s voice and keeps the heart centred on Him.
- Dependence upon divine wisdom: James 1:5 reminds believers that God generously gives wisdom to those who ask.
- Humility and surrender: Like Mary in Luke 1:38, we are called to submit themselves to God’s purposes.
- Sensitivity to the Holy Spirit: God’s guidance is not forced or mechanical. It is discerned through intimacy with Him.
- Continual worship and devotion: Worship positions the heart to recognise God’s leading and trust His timing.
Supernatural leading is not reserved for extraordinary individuals. It is the privilege of every believer who walks closely with God. And because the God who leads us is the God who owns tomorrow, His guidance can be trusted.
So, we can walk forward in confidence, knowing that God’s purposes are wiser than our own.
Conclusion
The future remains unknown to us, but it has never been unknown to God.
Isaiah 46:9-10 reveals a God who declares the end from the beginning, Jeremiah 29:11 assures us that His intentions are good, Matthew 6:34 teaches us not to be consumed by anxiety., and Psalm 31:15 reminds us that every season of life rests securely in His care.
The God who owns tomorrow is worthy of our trust. Therefore, we can say with confidence: I may not know what tomorrow holds, but I know who holds tomorrow.
That assurance is enough.
